Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Design, Camera & Specs Review

Here is the review of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 that you have been looking for a long time. The phone doesn’t have multitasking power, but it has something unbeatable. It has stylish functions that every smartphone user expects. The typical clamshell factor has made it perfect for taking on vacation. Also, Samsung has made it water-resistant by adding a cover display. With the improvement, its battery capacity and charging speed have increased. I have used this phone for a few days and observed that it’s good from the outside and inside. Here are the amazing features offered by the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 – Design

Samsung has enhanced the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s design. However, the differences are so small, and only an expert may notice them. The metal frame of the smartphone model is less rounded, with lavish sides and nice edges. The frame comes polished instead of matte to make the phone less slippery than its predecessors. Also, the glass panels come with a soft matte finish that works well in managing fingerprints.

The new Galaxy Z Flip 4 looks thick like its previous models when folded or open, and the metal frame of the rear panels around the hinge is now thinner, giving the smartphone an enhanced look. However, the size of the cover display is the same as the previous models. And the cameras are now a little above the surface that doesn’t let the phone lay flat on a table.

The hinge is now improved as it takes less space in the smartphone. It is also more rigid now, which is a benefit for all gamers as it can be folded inwards easily by applying a little pressure at the center of the main display. It has made it difficult to open the phone with one hand. Now, it’s not possible to flip the top half up with your thumb; however, even its predecessor was not built for this.

No matter how much the design is refined of the Galaxy Z flip 4, the phone can still catch dust which is an issue for foldable models. And the inner display is fragile and needs a pre-applied screen protector to prevent it from sharp objects and nails.

Specifications And Software

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 launched this year got the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC that offers enhanced performance and efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. However, it lacks S pen stylus support as on the Z Fold 4 and no support for Samsung Dex. And the battery is now bigger than the previous model, from 3,300 mAh to 3,700 mAh, which charges fast at 25 W.

The Samsung phone has a UI version 4.1 based on Android 12. There are no bigger differences compared to what’s already on Samsung’s other premium smartphones. It has the optimization that came with Flip 3 with the ability to open up to five apps in the window. Also, Samsung has a Flex mode that allows an app to shift its content on the top half of the display, and the bottom half is used as a touchpad. However, this isn’t always useful on Flip 4, as you are left with a small display screen. In contrast, the taller screen aspect ratio does well with the split-screen implementation if you want to multitask.

It offers superb battery life for the fashion-forward smartphone. The bigger battery with a highly efficient SoC doesn’t let you switch the battery performance profile to light mode with daily use. A light performance profile expands the battery life by a few hours and doesn’t bother the performance. I often played games for hours, and the phone lasted me for a full day. With no games, it can run for a few days, which is more than the Flip 3 that never lasted, even with light use.

Cameras

Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 hasn’t changed their cameras and retained its cameras the same as before. It has two 12-megapixel sensors for the primary and ultra-wide angle cameras at the rear, with a 10-megapixel camera integrated into the inner display for selfies. Although, there is a minor change in the primary camera. Now it has a bigger sensor with larger pixel size.

The primary camera works well in daylight. The colors are quite bright, and the dynamic range is quite impressive. Also, the ultra-wide angle camera captures quality photos with remarkable barrel distortion and purple fringing in brighter areas and fewer details at the edges. Fortunately, the color tone matched the primary camera, which means Samsung worked on its improvement. Plus, it delivers awesome close-ups of humans and objects with detail and edge detection. It also shot good selfies in all types of lighting. You can use the primary camera for selfies, as they offer a more detailed view and appearance. Shooting with either of the three cameras, the camera app activates the Night mode automatically and works very well. Also, the primary camera shot clear photos in street-lit scenes and showed detailed views with good dynamic range in dim light. Plus, the ultra-wide angle camera retains a good quality in street-lit scenes though it couldn’t capture much in dim light.
